Comparison of Identified Candida Species in Patients with Diaper Dermatitis and Tinea Cruris in Adult

Abstract
The authors performed mycological studies on 385 patients, who had clinical evidences of diaper dermatitis in infants and tinea cruris in adults, that had visited the dermatologic clinic of Chung Ang University Hospital from November, 1990 to
January,
1992.
There were a few studies for identification of candida species, but cold not find for this article in the Korean literature. We performed KOH scraping and culture in Sabouraud's glucose agar(SGA) media. 108 strains of candida(C) species were
isolated
and identified by culture in corn meal-Tween 80 media and sugar assimilation and fermentation tests using API 20C AUX strip system.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1) In patients with diaper dermatitis, the ratio of male and female was 1.4 : 1(66:48) and the mean age was 10.0 month. But in patients(T), cruris, that was 18.4 : 1 (257:14) and it is preponderance in male.
2) In patients with diaper dermatitis, the positive rate of KOH scraping was 50.0% and the positive rate of culture on ordinary (SGA) media was 68.4%.
3) In 271 patients with T. cruris, the positive rate of culture was 45.4%, it consisted of T. rubrum 64(52.0%), T, mentagrophytes 28(22.8%), C. albicans 30(24.4%), and Epidermophyton floccosum I(0.8%).
4) To compared the identified C. species in patients with diaper dermatitis and T. cruris, there were no significant diferencies. C. alaicans were the highest identified in both groups, but in diaper dermatitis the positive rate of culture of C.
albicans was higher than that in T. cruris.
